I need guidance on wiring my own lamp (trying to be creative during lockdown lol).

I have 3 pin round plug sockets (5 amp) on walls that are controlled by a wall switch so need advice on what items I need to create this . I also need quite a long cable due to where I want to be position the lamp.

Can find plenty of DIY lamp kits like this one online but they are the usual 3 pin plug type and cable isn't that long: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/808...h_query=diy+lamp+kit&ref=sr_gallery-1-1&frs=1

Any suggestions please?

Thanks

It depends on your DIY skills.

Round holed sockets are rather ancient, these days, most houses use fused square pinned 13amp plugs, but round pin plugs are still available. The pins should be marked. The earth is the larger middle one. Usually the brown wire goes to the pin on the right the blue to the left, as you look at the back of the plug.
Wiring up a three pin plug is simple enough, if the cable isn't long enough take the bottom off the lamp and see where the wires connect, usually with lamps it's only two wires, brown and blue. Buy a length of cable suitable for your requirements and change them over. Presumably the switch for the lamp is on its body, below the bulb?

Thanks Doghouse Riley. I have numerous round pin plugs in my property operated by a wall switch which all work - probably didn't make myself clear but I wanted to know what individual items I need to buy ie: are all brown/blue cables the same as got 3 metres of this from a diy store and don't want to blow my place up and do I need to buy each element separately.

It's likely that with round pins, your house hasn't been re-wired. So there might be a fusebox with wire fuses.
It could a 5amp lighting circuit , a 15 amp power circuit, a 30amp supply for the cooker and one for the garage if you have one. If you have an electric shower there will be another breaker for that.

If you're only connecting one lamp then what I said before is how to do it. That is if there's connections in the cable between the lamp holder and crimped connectors in the base of the lamp connecting the cord.
If the original cable goes straight throgh the base of the lamp and connects to the lamp holder, here's a video how to replace it.

As long as you wire it correctly, then there's no need to remove the fuse whilst you work on it.

Here's a video explaining how to wire up the plug.
