What Plywood should I Use for Wall Shelves?

None of the above is the most correct answer. IF YOU DO ANYWAY, then take a tip from the people that make pressed wood shelves and run a board that is 1.5" or 2x plywood thickness and give it also a center support in the rear to prevent sag. I typically glue the nosing part to the shelf and use finish nails to hold it until the glue dries. Seems less teouble to use a board for its superior fiber strengths.

Plywood shelves need a hardwood support under the length of the front edge for anything two feet or longer, if they are going to take any weight, or they will sag, even just slightly will be noticeable.

An alternative is hardwood bullnosed window sills.

I made these over thirty years ago and they are still as good as new, no sagging.

But you'd need to take out a mortgage to cover the cost of this wood now.
