Trane thermostat replacement

I replaced a failed tcont 803 thermostat with a simple Honeywell rth111. I also replaced the blown 5 fuse in the 4teh air handler and checked the connection by activating the fan by crossing red and green. After finishing installation the thermostat failed and the new fuse was blown. Appreciate any help
