I replaced the basin taps a couple of years ago as one of them had worn and the valve part wasn't operating. To keep the style of the bathroom I replaced with taps from the same manufacturer but the replacements were the type with a cover.
Water gets under the cover and corrodes the circlip at the top of the valve assembly so the valve doesn't open. The first time this happened on the hot tap I replaced the valve not realising it just needed a circlip. I didn't realise the crud under the cover was the remains of the circlip.
Now the cold has gone I have just fitted a new circlip. Eventually this will corrode. Should I be applying grease to protect the circlip, if so with what?
