Rubber Flooring suitable for domestic use..?

Just wondering if rubber floor tiles (Rubber Flooring & Studded Tiles - Kimpton Flooring Company) would be suitable for use in a Bedroom & if so would the installation require a specialist or is it something someone with limited DIY experience could realistically attempt?

Hi.

All depends on the sub floor. tiles would need to be laid on a smooth even surface. If you have chipboard or screeded concrete, then OK. But a boarded floor may cause problems as the boards are never flat.This could by sorted by using plywood first.

The other problem you could get is localised lifting of the tiles, due to the weight of a bed compressing the tile, something often seen in kitchens and with heavy appliances.

All in all, I would think that tiles are a bit 'commercial' for a bedroom. In my opinion I would go for carpet every time.

Thanks for the reply, I'm reluctant to use carpet as I've recently inherited a Kitten and it's pretty much destroyed the carpet I currently have in the bedroom, I also have a dog that is quite old and is prone to the odd bout of incontinence.. add these two together & as you can probably imagine the result isn't pleasant.
I don't want to use laminate flooring etc either, I'd appreciate other suggestions if anyone has any ideas.

I see your problem.
The only other thing I can think of is a cheap vinyl.

Have you considered PVC tiles? I recently installed some tiles in the kitchen from a company called Flexi-Tile. They were really easy to fit and look good.

They'd be hard for the cat and dog to destroy as well although I'm sure they'll try their best.

Hey Mr Tile many thanks for the suggestion/link.. these look similar to the rubber tiles I was thinking of using using but are significantly cheaper & require no adhesive.. definitely a contender.

No worries. Used them myself recently and found them very handy to install. Was delighted with the finish. Hope you get what you're after. Never easy looking for flooring when there's pets involved.

Yes, great idea from Mr Tile, but as in my earlier post, the floor does need to be smooth or you will have problems.

Totally agree. Sub floor needs to be level and smooth but there are products on the market that can help with this. I usually go with Rewmar products if I have any problems on floor surface.
