Hello everyone.

This is my first post, and I'm happy to be here.

I am considering adding a stairway to the lower floor. The floor (that is now flat and solid) is constructed of i-joists with 3/4 tong and groove plywood on top.

All resources I've found about modifying floor joists talk about 2-by material (ways to brace and reinforce the remaining joists after creating the opening, etc.), however I can't find anything that talks about i-joists. Where can I find more information about this (links, books, videos, etc.).

Kind regards,

B

If you cut one it needs support columns on both sides
