Hello,

We are currently under contract on a house, and have noticed a glaring issue on the front porch. They previous homeowner/DIYr/contractor installed siding that is contact with porch. It even appears they have caulked the porch to the bottom of the lowest portion of shingles (obvious water damage lol).

As for repairing this, from what I gather, remove lower row of siding, and assess for more water damage.

Hoping to remove, place some paper, sill, and place a PVC trim board.

Any insight or suggestions are welcome. No stranger to this sort of work, but definitely not a subject matter expert.

Welcome to the forum Rattler.

Most lenders will have a “living organism” clause in their contact. It states that the house must be free of any living organisms. This not only applies to termites but also molds and dry rot. If you are going to pay cash for the house be sure you know the exact amount of damage and the cost to repair. At this point a house inspector with a scope camera should be your new best friend.
