Repair lacquered woodwork

New-to-me house, LOTS of cherry-woodwork. I have used oil on the woodwork - a mistake, I learned too late, because it was lacquered! Now I have many blotchy places on the wood that look pale. How can I remove these ugly places without damaging the lacquer finish?
