I want to t build a ranch style entryway for my driveway, using discarded power poles for uprights, then place a slight smaller pole across the top. These are western red cedar poles, resistant to rot, but they are untreated, so I think I should set them on top of concrete foundations, using brackets to secure the poles. I've looked at a couple of them in the area, and am surprised that the metal brackets are only about a foot high, with three 3/4" bolts going through the post. Does anyone have any experience with a similar project they'd like to share? Any advice?
