Painting over varnish

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if the is anything I can use to paint over pine varnish, as it has gone very orange
You help please

clean with household cleaner, sand with 180 grit sanding sponge or sandpaper, remove the sanding dust, apply stain-blocking primer, apply primer to dry and lastly paint with water based or oil based paint.
