Lacquer for polished metal

After decorating I have lots of door and window furniture in brass and chrome which I have polished - what kind of lacquer finish would be best? Brewers have matt, satin or gloss but I'm not sure how each affects the appearance/longevity of the finish.

I've actually used automotive clear coat, and it works nice. However, automotive paints/clears need a reducer and hardener (activator). You have limited time to spray it as it uses catalyzers.
