Brand new dimmer will not dim! But it does turn on/off

So I just go a new dimmer for my bathroom. My house is old. Wiring is at least 20 years old.

The dimmer I installed does turn on and off. But it does not dim! Here are some pics of my current installation. I thought I followed the directions but it threw my off that the colors form my house didn't match what it said.


Here are 2 pics.

The dimmer I bought has 4 wires coming off:
Black
Red
Green
Red /white

The wall as 4 wires:
1 black and 1 white coming from the top
and 1black and 1 white coming from the Bottom

How I currently have it wired:
-The 2 whites from the wall are plugged into each other (that's how it was when I opened it)
-I pluged the black wire from the top of the house witj the black wire on the dimmer
- I plugged the black from the bottom of the house with the red on the dimmer
-I just capped the green wire from the dimmer &
- I capped the red/white wire from the dimmer


I hope this makes sense! Please let.me know if there is anything I'm doing wrong

Are you using an LED bulb? Some LED bulbs won't dim
